We have been testing the MAC agent but it seems to not like to stay connected. it works for a bit then just stops. any thoughts?

When you say does not like to stay connected, do you mean in ITSM wherein the Mac device just goes offline even though it is on?
Correct. It checks in but then just goes offline even if the Mac is powered on and online.
